I don't like traditional headlines -- they give away too much, they oversimplify whatever point one is trying to make, they're too-cheap SEO ploys -- so I name all the newsletters over things I obsess over. We've done Nirvana songs, Woody Allen movies (sorry), Wilco songs and now my favorite 100 Cardinals players. Sometimes they have a tangential relation to the topic -- Jeff Suppan was always making political statements when sometimes people didn't want him to -- but not always.
Great stuff. Well done and poignant. And I love what you said about sports. It really is the great unifier in a community. We can put all the bad and controversial s—t behind us and focus on something that brings people together. Definitely that way this year here in Knoxville. And Go Vols!!!
Based on what the Colts just did, how close were they to hiring your dear friend Pat McAfee? Feel like Irsay was two cocktails away from hiring Barstool Pat!
Thanks for reminding me there's an election tomorrow, I hadn't heard 😉
Another wonderful piece, Will. I truly enjoy your writing. But it reminds me of what former Chicago radio personality Steve Dahl said about talking about politics - he never did, because you're immediately going to piss off 50 % of your audience. I'm glad you're not taking that strategy.
Thanks for the link to the Karpf article. Very informative! And your post was great as usual!
I've never had as much anxiety as I have now over this election. The Republicans are full out crazy psycho fascists, full stop. What will life be like for me, a retired on disability 62 year old minority? What will life be like for all minorities? I fully expect massive violence in the streets over this election or in 2024. This is not the country I grew up in and that's a horrible feeling.....
Wow. Nailed it on so many levels. I feel the malaise, too, that has overtaken us as a country. Thank you for standing tall with what you believe. I want to do more of the same.
Good piece. I’m so exhausted by everything but know it’s not time to give up.
I’m fairly new here so I have to ask - what’s with the Jeff Suppan reference? Went right over my head.

Got it. Thanks for the reply!

You had me until the end part!!!!! (And thanks.)

Thank you. I wouldn't classify it as "standing tall" -- I'm just typing words in a box -- but we all try to do our part, however small it might be.
I'm a little worried that I might know what's in the box.
