The NFL’s embedding policy sucks BUT: had it properly embedded, I might have skipped right past it. I know Purple Rain, I would have thought. And then I would have read your words and rushed back to watch afterward, but never known if my reaction was my own or a response to yours (which was really moving, by the way).
Instead, I clicked on it because it didn’t embed and watched myself. As that sheet went up and the solo began, I got freaking chills. I’m not a big rock guy, I’ve never seen a concert live larger than a college orchestra, and, despite Minnesotan parents, I don’t know Prince’s music well. But that was glorious even on a phone.
And then I got to come back and read your take on it, plus on the impossible, miraculous beauty of basically humanness. All the while that guitar solo just kept on playing in my head. This all found me in the best way today. Thanks Will.
For me, it's the interstate system. I know--what a blight on the landscape--but there are so many of them. Passing into NYC or through the interchange of I-5 and 15 in LA: the scope just exhilarates me.
I *love* this. I think stuff like that all the time. Whatever one's thoughts about cars, and cityscapes, the highway system is really quite an incredible human achivement the more you think about it.
Sometimes, when I turn the water on or flip a light switch I have to stop and marvel how much work and innovation we have done to make this totally mundane thing seem totally mundane.
Taking a moment to appreciate achievements of all forms is definitely something you first learn to do as a middle-aged guy though...
Prince was also a great basketball player and ping pong player. Seriously, was there anything the man couldn't do? Still waiting for an Austin stop on your book tour!
Congrats on the new book, Will!

Can’t wait to read the book!
It's incredible, right? That sheet going up is a masterstroke.
Good grief, but Pujols hit that ball SQUARE.

Long since bought and so excited for you.

Thanks, I'll look into it.
I'm confused. Should I pre-order the book, or buy it at Anderson's in Downer's Grove? I feel I should give the little guy the sale...
How about pre-ordering it from Anderson's at Downers Grove? (Or both!)
