Joni Mitchell says (of being asked to played "the hits") "nobody asked Van Gogh to paint "A Starry Night" again"... (not that we know of at least, I guess...)
Your outfit at Left Bank Books was “spontaneously” great!Next time, add sneakers. Especially in LA. Signed, book lover, huge Cards fan and formerly a men’s personal shopper🤭
Last week was spent in withdrawal , missing The Time Has Come which I read way too fast. In the past several days I have gotten the word out in person to several people who said they would like to read it. "One small step etc." Thank you for your writing. You are a gift.
As a huge pessimist, that's something about you Will that I've appreciated, your seemingly relentless positivity. But this post seems the opposite, it seems like me, pessimistic! Because of Deadspin, there are a ton of writers that were a part of it or associated with it. That's something to be proud of, so it would seem to me the ignominy of Deadspin would be overshadowed. I don't know, something about the negative tone of this post seemed unearned. I rambled, sorry
I am proud of it! I say I’m proud of it! I don’t think Deadspin lives in ignominy at all! (Particularly because it died in November 2019.) I just think it’s reasonable for anyone not to want to be known best for something they did decades ago, you know?
Will, I had the same initial gut reaction to that Trace anniversary tour—I moved to Brooklyn two weeks before that album was released, so the two are totally intertwined. Also, I think you were one of the people I burned a Son Volt rarities disc for after one of Jason Fry’s birthday parties?
From a 59-yo retiree: recall that Leonard Nimoy followed “I Am Not Spock” with “I Am Spock.”

I'm reading too much into it then, sorry
(I also might not be reading into enough.)
Boy, are you in luck: I had never heard of Deadspin. I know you only from Substack. (I'm not a sports fan. I go out of my way to avoid sports.)
You’ve chosen wisely!

Oh Will, you over think things.
Love the book!
