Sorry about the Illini - we're still in mourning here. I hope you all are doing OK. That was brutal!!
I'm loving your Steve Martin movie rankings! Just got to Dead Men Don't wear Plaid and had a flashback - my dorm at Illinois, Taft, was chosen to test market that movie. They gave us a private screening, t-shirts, posters, etc. and asked our opinions on it. I'll never forget that. Great movie and as a guy who's old enough to remember (and own all of the albums) Steve as a stand-up comic, this ranking article is fabulous! I'm really looking forward to the documentary on Apple TV.
Keep up the great work and my Checkbook Dodgers almost got the sweep ;-)
You're opening day piece was great. My family had a deeply shitty week. Thursday night I was finally able to sit down for a few minutes. I poured myself a drink, put on whatever game was most interesting and read it and it really brought me back to where I needed to be. Baseball man, it's there for you.
There's a fine line between trying a bunch of stuff and overextending yourself. Not to say that's necessarily what you're doing, Will. I assume you and your family members have no problem with your many irons in the fire. But that isn't the case for everyone. Too many people, me included, have felt compelled to turn every hobby/interest into work and don't take nearly enough time off (especially in America). "Just to go make stuff" is good advice for some, but it can be counterproductive to others.
This is one of your pieces that magically lands at just the right time. I’ve been told the opposite of your message before; I’m glad to here this from you.
Carving out a comfortable niche is great, but what’s the point of comfort if not to allow you to try some things?
Martin's cat joke below was the funniest, naughtiest thing my 6 year old self had ever heard.

That was a beautiful piece, Will. Thanks for that.
Thanks ... see LA Story, it's great!
I keep waiting for Steve Martin to perform a King Tut sequel, but. . .nothing. Go Illini!
So good, thanks Will! Also, even though they defeated my Cyclones… go Illinois!!
Your #3 article this week was a gem!
I work with a Chicagoan - so yeah, GO ILLINI!
Let's GOOOOOOOOO

Aw, thanks ... I sure needed it after that Illini loss!

Bill Murray betrayed us.
Love your writing about Steve Martin. He is a true genius, and I do not use that word lightly.
Thank you for your words about him.
If I recall correctly, he was also a writer for The Smothers' Brothers Comedy Hour. That was great entertainment.
What a bizarre night. Keep your head up!
