You’re the Doodie- Doo- great story, lol

“ Good personal writing is not a diary. It’s an attempt to connect.”

Great line.

Thanks! I usually don't like writing much *about* writing, but it felt relevant for this one.

Came to say the same thing! A line like this clearly explains what would take me 500 words to make merely murky.

Your Olympics article is behind a paywall so I can't read it, but allow me to comment

that the Opening Ceremony was the most innovative, imaginative and beautiful opening ceremony I have ever seen.

I was a big fan too! I really think having in Paris just inherently makes it look fantastic.

I had a sports blog when I was in high school and at some point lost the entire archive of articles between 2008-2014. Your reminder of the wayback machine just led me right back to them. Thanks Will.

Be sure the boxes in the basement are water, fire, and bug proof. On a smaller scale, I am trudging through this same frustrating path. I feel your pain, wish you long term luck, and am envious of your helper.

Will I'm a a huge fan, been reading your work for like 20 years.

I don't understand sharing stuff from Noah Smith, a smug asshole whose entire schtick is shitting on progressives online (including in this article)?

I can only speak for the newsletter -- I'm told he has a very obnoxious online presence, but I just don't really look at that stuff anymore -- but I find his perspective valuable, even when I disagree with him. (Perhaps especially when I disagree with him.)

Always appreciate the thoughtful response. Agree to disagree here on Noah who from my perspective is not only obnoxious online, but a bad guy who is very frequently wrong about major things. I would personally look for another source.

Was a big fan of Sports on Earth. Even got a t shirt from the site that I only retired finally a couple years ago.

Wonderful perspective on parenting, Will.

I used to have one of those too, but I can't find it anymore. It is my shame.

This hit me hard this week, as I just got back from my favorite aunt’s wake and funeral. They had a slideshow with all these great photos of when they were kids, dating, getting married, all the way thru becoming grandparents. We were told lots of fun stories from NYC in the ‘50s and ‘60s, and all the GenX cousins realized at one point or another that it’s now our job to keep these stories alive.

We have an annual family reunion that our immediate family has to put on every three years. My mom and uncle have been doing it for decades. But they're getting older, and I don't know if my sister and cousin and I have what it takes to keep it going. (If just because we don't live near where it is anymore.) Which makes me feel bad.
